The Square Plate is a family business built on two families, decades of experience, and a shared belief that great food and great service go hand in hand.
John has spent over 40 years as a chef, and Jax has spent nearly 30 years front of house. The two crossed paths while freelancing for wedding venues and caterers across Scotland, where between them they worked over 400 weddings in 2025 alone. That shared graft, and a mutual obsession with getting every detail right, is what brought The Square Plate to life.
John is joined in the kitchen by his son, John Jnr, a fantastic sous chef in his own right with almost 30 years' experience. Jax brings her team from On Demand Hospitality Staff, a group who feel like family after years of working events together across Ayrshire and beyond. Her son Cole leads the bar and cocktail side of the business, bringing energy and creativity to every event.
It's a genuinely family affair — John's wife Margaret and Jax's daughter Jess are often found helping out in the kitchen too, lending a hand wherever it's needed.
With decades of combined experience, a tight-knit team, and a real love for what they do, The Square Plate brings warmth, skill, and reliability to every event — big or small.
